Xiaomi’s Lei Jun Vows AI-Driven Innovation Amid NPC Meeting

Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, reaffirmed his company's commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technologies into consumer products during a media appearance at the National People's Congress (NPC) Deputies' Corridor in Beijing on Wednesday. As an NPC deputy, Lei emphasized Xiaomi's focus on fostering \"new quality productive forces\" through sci-tech innovation and high-quality development.

Xiaomi, now celebrating its 15th anniversary, has evolved into a global smartphone leader with 170 million units sold in 2024. The company recently expanded into electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, unveiling its SU7 model—a high-performance EV priced at one-third the cost of comparable luxury vehicles. Last week, Porsche publicly praised Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra for breaking lap records at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Lei's remarks align with broader discussions at the recent symposium on China's private enterprises, which he attended alongside other tech leaders. The Beijing-based company's strategic pivot to EVs and AI reflects China's growing emphasis on advanced manufacturing and technological self-reliance, themes prominently featured in this year's NPC agenda.

Analysts note that Xiaomi's cross-sector innovation strategy could reshape global consumer electronics and automotive markets, offering investors new opportunities in Asia's rapidly evolving tech ecosystem.
