Chinese Mainland Urges Taiwan’s DPP to Avoid Strategic Miscalculations

A spokesperson from the Chinese mainland warned Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities against miscalculating the current situation, public opinion, and comparative strength. This statement was issued on Thursday amidst reports that Taiwan's Han Kuang 41 military exercise is set to significantly extend its live-fire phase and mobilize up to 3,000 reserve troops, a move encouraged by the United States.

Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, criticized the DPP authorities for what he described as an illusion of \"soliciting U.S. support for independence\" and \"resisting unification by force.\"

\"We warn the DPP authorities that holding back the tide with a broom will only end up in self-destruction. We will come and get you, sooner or later,\" Wu stated.

He further emphasized that the Taiwan question is an internal affair of China, allowing no external interference. \"The U.S. side wants to contain China with Taiwan and connives at risky and provocative activities of the DPP authorities for 'Taiwan independence.' This strategy will ultimately backfire,\" Wu added.

The spokesperson highlighted that compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to one and the same Chinese family. \"We will strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the greatest sincerity and utmost effort. But we make no promise to renounce the use of force, which is targeted at the 'Taiwan secessionist' forces and external interference,\" he stressed.

Wu concluded by asserting that anyone pushing for \"Taiwan secession\" will face swift and strong countermeasures from the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
