British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has pledged to increase the United Kingdom's defense spending to 2.5 percent of its GDP by 2027. This announcement precedes upcoming talks with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington.
To fund this increase, Starmer plans to reduce overseas development aid from 0.5 percent of GDP to 0.3 percent. Currently, the UK allocated 2.3 percent of its GDP to defense for the fiscal year 2023/24.
The proposed adjustments are part of the UK's strategic efforts to address evolving global security challenges.
