In Johannesburg on Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations amidst Angola's new role as the president of the African Union (AU).
Wang Yi extended his congratulations to Angola on its assumption of the AU presidency and reiterated China’s consistent stance in Africa. He emphasized that China does not seek private interests in Africa and maintains a policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of African nations. Wang highlighted China’s steadfast support for African integration and its commitment to maintaining good relations with all African countries.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also pointed out that China’s comprehensive cooperation with Africa accelerates the continent’s development and encourages the international community to pay more attention to Africa, thereby increasing investment in the region. Wang pledged that China will continue to be Africa’s most sincere and reliable partner in its future development.
In response, Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio expressed gratitude for China’s support in Angola’s economic and social development. He acknowledged the significant contributions made by Chinese companies to Angola’s national construction.
Antonio emphasized Angola's willingness to expand cooperation with China in areas such as trade, investment, finance, and energy. He assured China of Angola's firm support on issues related to China's core interests. Furthermore, Angola expressed its intention to utilize its role as AU chair to enhance communication and coordination with China, deepen China-Africa cooperation, and strengthen African unity.
