Chinese and Russian Foreign Ministers Strengthen Bilateral Ties at G20 Summit

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov engaged in discussions to enhance China-Russia relations during the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia is advancing to higher levels and broader dimensions. He emphasized the steady progress in mutually beneficial cooperation and effective strategic coordination, which play a crucial role in safeguarding the common interests of both nations and promoting global multipolarity.

Wang expressed China's willingness to work with Russia to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and to further advance bilateral relations in the coming year.

On his part, Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia is committed to strengthening high-level exchanges with China and deepening practical cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, finance, and culture. He underscored the importance of advancing the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination.

Lavrov noted that both Russia and China uphold multipolarity and serve as stabilizing forces in a complex global landscape. He praised China's global initiatives and the high level of mutual trust between the two countries, expressing Russia's willingness to continue strengthening communication and coordination within frameworks like BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nations, and the G20.

The ministers also exchanged views and coordinated positions on international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the situation in the Middle East.
