China to Launch Nationwide Tagging System for Ancient Trees

The Chinese mainland is set to implement a comprehensive tagging system aimed at protecting its ancient and notable trees. This nationwide initiative underscores the importance of these trees as \"green national treasures\" and \"living cultural relics,\" according to a senior official from the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA).

Following the enactment of China's first national-level regulations dedicated to the preservation of ancient and notable trees, the new measures will officially take effect on March 15. Zhang Liming, director of the NFGA's ecological protection and restoration department, highlighted the significance of these regulations in a report published by the Science and Technology Daily on Monday.

Zhang emphasized that the regulations are in harmony with China's broader objectives of constructing an \"ecological civilization\" and safeguarding the nation's cultural identity. By systematically identifying and securing these valuable trees, China aims to ensure their longevity and continued contribution to both the environment and cultural heritage.
