Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning, stating that Iran will deliver an immediate and decisive response to any attack on its nuclear facilities.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar's Al Jazeera TV network aired on Friday, Araghchi responded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's threats to strike Iran's nuclear sites and addressed the possibility of U.S. involvement. He cautioned that U.S. participation in any potential Israeli attacks would be one of the \"biggest historical mistakes.\"
\"Iran's nuclear program is the product of our own scientific capabilities,\" Araghchi said. \"Our nuclear expertise resides within the minds of our scientists, not merely in physical installations. Such a capability cannot be eliminated through bombardments and airstrikes.\"
He emphasized that Iran's nuclear facilities are dispersed across multiple, well-protected locations, making them \"very difficult and even impossible\" to target effectively. \"Our sites are safeguarded by robust air defense systems,\" he added.
Araghchi warned that any aggression against Iran's nuclear infrastructure would be met with immediate retaliation. \"Unlike previous instances, if any attack is carried out against our nuclear facilities, our reaction will be swift and decisive,\" he asserted. \"Such an attack would plunge the entire region into an all-out war—a catastrophe that nobody desires, neither within nor outside the region.\"
Expressing skepticism about the likelihood of an attack, he stated, \"I do not think the Americans would make such a significant miscalculation.\"
The foreign minister reaffirmed that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons and has no intention of developing them, despite having the capability to do so. \"We ensure our security through other means and maintain that nuclear weapons are forbidden,\" Araghchi declared, highlighting that nuclear arms are not part of Iran's military doctrine.
