Xi Jinping Leads CPC Meeting to Advance Yellow River Basin Development
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions aimed at promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions: the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The CPC leadership fully recognized the work of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The meeting emphasized that in 2025, the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions must prioritize effective action, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
The Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Focus on Yellow River Basin
The meeting highlighted the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, calling for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law. It underscored the need to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
Additionally, the meeting emphasized the importance of holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the region.
