Han Zheng meets U.S. business leaders to strengthen China-U.S. ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic ties between China and the United States. Han encouraged U.S. companies to continue investing and establishing a strong presence in China, playing an active role in fostering mutual understanding and contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Attendees included members of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Han is visiting Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During the meeting, Han highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, where they reached important common understandings on the development of China-U.S. relations. He noted that China and the United States share broad common interests and significant potential for cooperation. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,\" Han stated.

Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, calling them participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up and to continuously improving its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They recognized the positive and encouraging message sent by the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi. \"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they said. The business leaders voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China, share in the fruits of its development, and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
