China’s Wang Yi Calls for New Era Cooperation with U.S. in Phone Call

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on China and the United States to find the right path to coexist in the new era. In a phone conversation on Friday with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Wang emphasized the importance of implementing the recent consensus reached between the leaders of the two nations.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, noted that President Xi Jinping had a significant phone call with U.S. President Joe Biden last Friday. During the conversation, the two leaders reached a series of important agreements, setting the tone for the future of China-U.S. relations.

\"The development of China-U.S. relations has come to a new important juncture,\" Wang said. He highlighted that President Xi comprehensively elaborated on China's policy toward the United States, and President Biden responded positively, expressing his desire to maintain good relations with President Xi. Biden emphasized that cooperation between the two countries could help solve many global challenges.

Wang urged both nations to implement the leaders' important common understandings by maintaining communication, managing differences, and expanding cooperation. He emphasized the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation as the foundation for promoting steady, sound, and sustainable development of bilateral relations.

Addressing the Taiwan question, Wang reiterated China's principled stance and urged the U.S. to handle the matter prudently. \"Taiwan has been part of China's territory since ancient times,\" he said. \"We will never allow Taiwan to be split from China.\" Wang emphasized that the United States should adhere to the one-China policy, as outlined in the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and avoid any actions that contradict these commitments.

Secretary Blinken acknowledged the significance of the U.S.-China relationship, stating that the two nations are great countries whose relationship will determine the future of the world. He expressed the United States' hope to engage in candid communication with China, resolve differences, and manage the bilateral relationship in a mature and prudent manner. Blinken also affirmed that the U.S. does not support \"Taiwan independence\" and hopes the Taiwan question can be resolved peacefully in a manner acceptable to both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Wang concluded by emphasizing that major countries should shoulder their international responsibilities to maintain world peace and contribute to global development. \"I hope you will act accordingly and play a constructive role for the future of the people of China and the United States, as well as for the peace and stability of the world,\" Wang said.
