Chinese President Xi Jinping recently embarked on his first domestic inspection of 2025, touring Liaoning Province in northeast China to assess disaster recovery efforts, urban renewal projects, and industrial advancements.
On January 22, President Xi visited Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas hardest hit by the unprecedented torrential downpours during the summer floods of 2024. The floods had caused significant devastation, leaving many families without homes.
In response to the disaster, the village committee swiftly organized the construction of new homes for severely affected households on higher ground. Tailored to each family's size and needs, the new houses were completed in less than two months. By the onset of winter, nearly 200 disaster-stricken residents had been provided with warm homes in the newly rebuilt Zhujiagou Village.
During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration. He walked through the new homes, engaging with relocated villagers and inquiring about the quality of their housing and provisions for daily life. His concern reflected his longstanding \"people-first\" philosophy and commitment to enhancing the sense of security among the populace.
Prior to the flood, during the 2013 National People's Congress, Xi had emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods while participating in deliberations with the delegation from Liaoning. He urged special attention to those facing difficulties and the delivery of tangible benefits to the people. The swift relocation efforts after the flood are a testament to this commitment.
On January 23, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, Liaoning's capital. There, he observed how public services were being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas; all 13 residential buildings and public areas have been upgraded. Initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care have been launched to support the residents.
Xi also toured a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in Benxi, another city in Liaoning. He gained insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading, promoting high-quality development in the industrial sector.
President Xi's visit to Liaoning underscores his dedication to the well-being of the people and the development of China's northeastern regions. By prioritizing disaster recovery, community improvement, and industrial advancement, he reinforces the nation's commitment to progress and prosperity for all.
