Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Engages U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders in Washington D.C. on Sunday, expressing hope for continued investment and collaboration to strengthen China-U.S. ties. Han is in the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative.

During the meeting with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han emphasized the significant role U.S. companies play in fostering mutual understanding and cooperation. \"We hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in China, act as a bridge, and contribute more to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations,\" Han stated.

He highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings on developing China-U.S. relations. Han expressed optimism about the broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation between the two nations, asserting that a positive start and steady growth in bilateral relations would benefit both peoples and meet international expectations.

Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and China's reform and opening-up. He assured that China would unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts, continuously improving its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community responded positively, expressing optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They noted that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive, encouraging message. As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence, they emphasized. The business leaders voiced support for strengthened dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

In addition to meeting with business representatives, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed increased investment from U.S. companies like Tesla, inviting them to share in the fruits of China's development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, and to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
