President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting, Emphasizes Yellow River Protection and Reform

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing important reports and setting the agenda for high-quality development and ecological protection in the coming year.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also discussed.

The meeting fully recognized the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, President Xi called on these groups to prioritize getting things done, pushing forward reforms, and making new contributions to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capacity, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing comprehensive ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often called the \"Mother River\" of China, holds immense cultural and ecological significance. The meeting highlighted the necessity of promoting the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

Key initiatives include systematically enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches of the river, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. The meeting also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure along the river.

The Political Bureau called for strengthening the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and the strategies of the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Efforts will be made to improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and to promote the integration of culture and tourism development.

The decisions made during the meeting underscore the CPC's commitment to ecological civilization and sustainable development, aiming to balance economic growth with environmental conservation for the well-being of current and future generations.
