Chinese Vice President Han Zheng has called for strengthened economic ties between China and the United States during his meetings with U.S. business leaders in Washington D.C. on Sunday. Han is visiting the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as President Xi Jinping's special representative.
Meeting with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest in China, acting as a bridge and contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
\"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
Han highlighted the vital role of the U.S. business community as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up drive. He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment.
U.S. business leaders welcomed Han's remarks, noting that the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump sent a positive and encouraging message. They emphasized that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence.
The U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They voiced support for strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
During his visit, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla and other U.S. companies to seize opportunities in China's development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla's investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.
