In a significant move to bolster economic relations between China and the United States, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday. Han, attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping's special representative, emphasized China's commitment to fostering a favorable business environment for U.S. companies.
\"We hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in China, play an active role as a bridge, and make a greater contribution to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations,\" Han stated during the meeting with leaders from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting comes on the heels of a recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, during which they reached important common understandings regarding the future development of China-U.S. relations. Han highlighted that both nations share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.
\"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of our two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,\" Han remarked.
He acknowledged the pivotal role of the U.S. business community in the bilateral relationship, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up drive. Han assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up efforts and improve its business environment.
Representatives from the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and opportunities for development. They viewed the recent dialogue between Trump and Xi as a positive and encouraging signal.
\"As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist,\" they stated, voicing support for strengthened dialogue and communication.
Adding to the significance of his visit, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities within China's growing market.
\"China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,\" Han noted.
Musk responded affirmatively, saying that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
