Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Advance Development and Protect Yellow River

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from key Party groups and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report during the session.

The meeting fully acknowledged the achievements of these leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the Political Bureau called on these groups to prioritize tangible results, unite efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to China's high-quality development and modernization in the upcoming year.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, enforce strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, a critical region for China's environmental sustainability and economic growth. The Political Bureau highlighted the necessity of fully implementing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital resource.

Strategies were outlined to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Ensuring the safety of essential dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was also a key focus.

The meeting stressed the importance of aligning the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. This alignment aims to foster regional synergy and promote balanced development across China.

Additionally, the Political Bureau called for improved protection of cultural heritage and the promotion of integrated cultural and tourism development in the Yellow River Basin. By enhancing the holistic and systematic protection of cultural assets, China seeks to preserve its rich history while stimulating economic growth through sustainable tourism.

This meeting underscores the CPC's commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, reflecting China's broader goals of achieving harmony between economic growth and environmental protection.
