Chinese President Xi Jinping recently embarked on a tour of Liaoning Province in northeast China, inspecting disaster recovery, urban renewal, and industrial advancement efforts. This visit marks his first domestic inspection in 2025 and his fourth visit to Liaoning since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012.
On January 22, President Xi visited Zhujiagou, a village in Huludao, one of the areas hardest hit by the summer floods in 2024 caused by unprecedented torrential downpours. In response to the disaster, the village committee quickly organized the construction of new homes for the severely affected households on higher ground. Tailored to each family's size and needs, the new housing was completed in less than two months, providing nearly 200 disaster-stricken residents with a warm home before the onset of winter.
During his visit, President Xi inspected the progress of post-disaster restoration, visiting the homes of relocated villagers and inquiring about the quality of their new houses and their daily living conditions. His concern for the well-being of the people reflects his longstanding commitment to putting people first.
People's livelihoods have always been a major focus for President Xi. Back in 2013, during the National People's Congress, he emphasized the importance of ensuring and improving people's livelihoods while participating in the deliberations of the delegation from Liaoning. He urged special attention to those facing difficulties and the delivery of tangible benefits to the people. The swift relocation after the flood embodies this \"people-first\" philosophy and the commitment to enhancing the public's sense of security.
On January 23, President Xi visited the Chang'an community in Shenyang, Liaoning's capital, to observe how public services are being optimized to improve residents' quality of life. Since 2023, the community has been renovating old residential areas. All 13 residential buildings and public areas have been upgraded, and initiatives promoting quality employment, education, health services, and elderly care have been launched to support the residents.
President Xi also visited a cold rolling mill of the Bensteel Group in Benxi, another city in Liaoning, to gain insights into the company's efforts to accelerate transformation and upgrading and to promote high-quality development.
President Xi's visit to Liaoning highlights his dedication to the well-being of the people and the development of the region. His hands-on approach and engagement with local communities underscore the government's commitment to disaster recovery, urban renewal, and industrial progress, aiming to build a stronger and more prosperous society.
