China has officially commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, marking a significant advancement in the naval capabilities of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. The commissioning ceremony took place on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, located in east China's Shandong Province.

The Luohe, bearing the hull number \"545,\" boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. As a new-generation frigate independently developed and constructed by China, it incorporates cutting-edge stealth technology, advanced combat command systems, and integrated firepower capabilities. These enhancements significantly elevate the overall performance and operational effectiveness of the vessel.

Equipped with strong capabilities for comprehensive combat operations and a variety of military missions, the Luohe is set to play a vital role in strengthening the overall combat effectiveness of naval task forces. Its introduction reflects the PLA Navy's ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet and enhance its ability to safeguard national sovereignty and security.

The launch of the Type 054B frigate was confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense in August 2023. Wu Qian, a spokesperson for the ministry, stated during a press conference that the development of key combat vessels is a normal arrangement aligned with national security requirements and the overall objectives of naval development. He emphasized that this move aims to protect the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability.

Wu added that China remains committed to the path of peaceful development and adheres to a defensive national defense policy. The commissioning of the Luohe underscores this commitment, reflecting China's dedication to enhancing its defensive capabilities in line with its development goals.
