Firefighters Cook for Quake-Affected Villagers in Xizang’s Dingri County

In the remote village of Cuo'ang in Quluo Town, Dingri County, the aroma of freshly cooked food fills the air. It has been more than a week since a magnitude-6.8 earthquake shook southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on January 7, leaving communities in need of aid and comfort.

As resettlement and reconstruction efforts continue, firefighters from the Xizang Forest Firefighting Special Operations Unit have taken on a new role—cooking meals for the quake-affected villagers. Our reporter, Zhao Chenchen, joined them on the frontline to witness their dedication firsthand.

Dressed in their firefighting gear, the team set aside their usual duties to prepare lunch for the residents of Cuo'ang Village. Large pots bubble over open flames as firefighters chop vegetables and stir fragrant stews, bringing a moment of warmth and normalcy to those who have lost so much.

\"The earthquake has impacted many lives here,\" said one firefighter. \"We want to do whatever we can to help the villagers recover and see smiles on their faces again.\"

The camaraderie between the firefighters and villagers is evident. Children gather around, eyes wide with curiosity, while elders express their gratitude for the support and care shown by the team.

Resettlement efforts are well underway, but challenges remain. The firefighters' contribution goes beyond providing meals; they offer a sense of hope and solidarity in difficult times.

As the community comes together over shared meals, the resilience of the people of Dingri County shines through, embodying the spirit of unity and perseverance in the face of adversity.
