On Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
During the meeting, the Political Bureau reviewed reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions, including the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was also reviewed.
Recognizing the achievements over the past year, the meeting approved the work plans for 2025 of these groups. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing action, uniting efforts to push forward reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.
The meeting highlighted the significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, one of China's most vital regions. The Political Bureau called for the promotion of the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
Key initiatives include enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches of the river, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Efforts will also be made to ensure the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure, and to improve synergy between the Yellow River's development and broader regional strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
The meeting also urged for improved protection of cultural heritage in the region and the promotion of integrated culture and tourism development.
