Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting on Monday, reviewing significant reports and emphasizing the importance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
At the meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee were reviewed.
The meeting acknowledged the achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions were urged to prioritize action, unite efforts to advance reforms, and make new contributions to high-quality development and Chinese modernization in 2025.
Additionally, the Secretariat was encouraged to enhance political capabilities, enforce strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.
The significance of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin was a highlight of the meeting. Leaders called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
They emphasized systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and promote wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also stressed the importance of safeguarding key infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs, aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader regional strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region, preserving cultural heritage holistically, and integrating culture and tourism development.
These initiatives reflect the CPC's commitment to ecological sustainability and the advancement of Chinese modernization, aiming to foster high-quality development that benefits both the environment and society.
