Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Boost High-Quality Development in Yellow River Basin

Beijing, [Date] — President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a pivotal meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on advancing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin, a region critical to China's environmental sustainability and economic growth.

The Political Bureau reviewed a comprehensive report from its Standing Committee after discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting acknowledged the significant achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action and reform, the meeting called on the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions to prioritize effective implementation, foster unity in pushing forward reforms, and contribute to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization in 2025.

The CPC Central Committee's Secretariat was urged to enhance political capability, enforce strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for comprehensive ecological protection and high-quality development in the region. It emphasized the need to fully enforce the Yellow River Protection Law, enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

The meeting also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of crucial dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. Efforts should be made to synergize the Yellow River's high-quality development with strategies for large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, the meeting underscored the need to protect cultural heritage holistically and systematically, promoting the integration of culture and tourism development in the Yellow River Basin.
