Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with representatives of the U.S. business community on Sunday in Washington D.C., expressing hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish a strong presence in the Chinese mainland.
Han is visiting the United States to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative, at the invitation of the U.S.
During his meeting with U.S. business leaders, including those from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han highlighted the importance of mutual cooperation and the vast potential for China-U.S. relations.
He noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently had a phone conversation, reaching important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations.
Emphasizing the broad common interests shared by China and the United States, Han stated that initiating the bilateral relationship on a positive trajectory and maintaining steady growth serves the well-being of both peoples and meets international expectations.
Han acknowledged the U.S. business community as the backbone of China-U.S. relations, describing them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and China's reform and opening-up efforts.
He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They welcomed the positive and encouraging message from the recent phone call between Trump and Xi.
They emphasized that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and seek a constructive and stable way to coexist.
The U.S. business leaders affirmed their support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday, welcoming U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities in China and contribute to China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk expressed readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
Han's engagements reflect China's commitment to fostering positive China-U.S. relations and underline the significant role of the business community in bridging the two nations.
