President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau on Monday, highlighting the crucial role of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.
The meeting reviewed reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The Political Bureau fully recognized the accomplishments of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. President Xi urged them to prioritize action, drive reforms, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization in the coming year.
Special attention was given to the ecological well-being of the Yellow River Basin. The meeting called for comprehensive promotion of the Yellow River Protection Law, aiming to enhance water source conservation in the river's upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
Emphasis was placed on ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting also stressed the importance of aligning efforts with national strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
Efforts will focus on improving the protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism along the Yellow River, enhancing both environmental and economic vitality in the region.
The meeting highlighted the need for the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee to boost political ability, enforce strict self-governance, and fulfill all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
