China Commissions First Type 054B Frigate Luohe, Enhancing Naval Capabilities

China's naval capabilities took a significant leap forward as the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy officially commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, the Luohe, on Wednesday morning. The ceremony took place at a military port in Qingdao, located in east China's Shandong Province.

Designated with the hull number \"545,\" the Luohe boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. This new-generation frigate, independently developed and constructed by China, represents a substantial advancement in naval technology. Equipped with cutting-edge stealth features, sophisticated combat command systems, and integrated firepower, the Luohe significantly enhances the overall performance and combat effectiveness of China's naval forces.

The Type 054B frigate is designed to undertake a wide range of missions, demonstrating strong capabilities in comprehensive combat operations and diverse military tasks. Its introduction is expected to play a vital role in strengthening the combat effectiveness of naval task forces, contributing to China's maritime security and strategic interests.

The launch of the Luohe was confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense during a press conference in August 2023. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the PLA Navy's development of key combat vessels is a normal arrangement aligned with national security requirements and overall naval development objectives. He emphasized that this move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability.

\"China has always been committed to the path of peaceful development and adhered to a defensive national defense policy,\" Wu added, underscoring the nation's stance on its military advancements.
