President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Advance High-Quality Development and Yellow River Protection

In a pivotal meeting held on Monday, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. The gathering focused on reviewing comprehensive reports and discussing strategies to propel China's high-quality development and ecological conservation efforts.

The meeting evaluated a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, following in-depth discussions on the work reports presented by the leading Party members' groups from several key state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the review of opinions on promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Recognizing the critical importance of the Yellow River, often referred to as the \"mother river\" of China, the Political Bureau underscored the need for full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

The meeting lauded the achievements of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It was emphasized that in the coming year, these groups must prioritize effective action, consolidate efforts to advance reforms, and contribute to the overarching goals of high-quality development and Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance its political capabilities, enforce strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

Addressing the ecological agenda, the meeting called for systematic measures to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and promote wetland protection and ecological management in the lower reaches. Efforts to ensure the safety of critical dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure were deemed essential.

Additionally, the meeting stressed the importance of integrating the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. There was also a call to improve the holistic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River and to promote the fusion of cultural and tourism development.

This meeting reflects the CPC's commitment to fostering sustainable development and preserving China's natural and cultural resources, reinforcing the nation's path toward modernization.
