Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting

President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and discussing strategies to advance China's high-quality development and ecological conservation, with a particular emphasis on the Yellow River Basin.

Reviewing Key Reports

The Political Bureau assessed a report from its Standing Committee after hearing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of five major state institutions: the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The meeting acknowledged the achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on collaboration and pooling strengths to drive reforms, advance high-quality development, and contribute to the modernization of the nation.

Emphasizing Yellow River Basin Development

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. Leaders highlighted the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this crucial region.

Strategies were outlined to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Efforts were also urged to ensure the safety of vital dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure. The meeting called for aligning the Yellow River's development with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

Promoting Cultural Heritage and Tourism

The leaders stressed the need for holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage along the Yellow River. They advocated for integrating culture and tourism development to promote the rich historical and cultural assets of the region.

Strengthening Party Governance

The Secretariat was tasked with boosting political capabilities and enhancing strict self-governance to effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
