Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Advance High-Quality Development and Ecological Protection

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a key meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions aimed at promoting high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a report from its Standing Committee after discussing the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

Significant attention was given to the comprehensive promotion of ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The meeting underscored the importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital region.

The CPC Central Committee acknowledged the accomplishments of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. The meeting emphasized that in 2025, these groups must prioritize action, collaborate to advance reforms, and contribute to the nation's high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat was urged to boost its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively fulfill the tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

Regarding the Yellow River Basin, the meeting called for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Ensuring the safety of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was highlighted as a crucial task.

The meeting also emphasized aligning the high-quality development of the Yellow River with broader regional strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It advocated for improved protection of cultural heritage and the integration of culture and tourism to foster sustainable development.
