Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations during meetings with U.S. business leaders on Sunday in Washington D.C. Han is visiting the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During his discussions with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and grow their presence in China. He called on them to act as a bridge between the two nations and contribute to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently had a phone conversation where they reached important common understandings regarding the future of bilateral relations. He stressed that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation, and that a positive start to the relationship would benefit both nations and meet international expectations.

The Chinese Vice President highlighted the pivotal role of the U.S. business community in the development of China-U.S. relations, acknowledging them as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up policies and improve its business environment.

Representatives of the U.S. business community conveyed their optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities available. They agreed that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message. They emphasized that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence. They expressed support for strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China and to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
