China has expressed its willingness to engage in open communication with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues, following the EU's recent complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
On Monday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that channels of communication with the EU on intellectual property matters are \"always open,\" emphasizing China's commitment to addressing concerns through dialogue.
The EU filed a complaint with the WTO on the same day, challenging China's judicial actions concerning standard essential patents (SEPs). SEPs are patents essential to the implementation of industry standards, and disputes over them can have significant implications for global technology and trade.
According to an online statement from the ministry, China received the EU's request for consultations on January 20, responding to media inquiries regarding the issue.
The Ministry of Commerce stressed that China has consistently adhered to WTO rules and its accession commitments. It highlighted the country's ongoing efforts to improve legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized internationally.
China affirmed that it will handle subsequent matters in accordance with WTO procedures, firmly safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.
This development underscores the complexities of international trade relations and the importance of open dialogue in resolving disputes. Both China and the EU are key players in the global economy, and their cooperation on intellectual property issues is vital for fostering innovation and fair competition.
