Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders on Sunday in Washington, D.C., expressing hopes that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in China, playing an active role as a bridge and contributing to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han Zheng, serving as Chinese President Xi Jinping's special representative, is in Washington, D.C., to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, at the invitation of the United States.
During his meeting with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han conveyed that President Xi Jinping and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings on the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation.
Han emphasized that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation. He stated that fostering a positive start to bilateral relations and maintaining steady growth serves the common well-being of both nations' peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.
The Vice President highlighted the significant role of the U.S. business community as a backbone in China-U.S. relations, being active participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He expressed that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community noted that the recent phone conversation between President-elect Trump and President Xi sent a positive and encouraging message. They expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities, and support strengthening dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
Han Zheng also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Sunday. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk stated that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and is committed to playing an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
