President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Advance Yellow River Basin Development

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a significant meeting of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing vital reports and discussing strategies to propel ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau evaluated a comprehensive report from its Standing Committee after deliberating on the work reports submitted by the leading Party members' groups of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, the State Council, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the work report of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was reviewed.

In acknowledging the contributions over the past year, the meeting fully recognized the efforts of the leading Party members' groups within the five state institutions and approved their work plans for 2025. The leadership emphasized the importance of prioritizing effective implementation of tasks, fostering reform initiatives, and making new contributions towards advancing high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and diligently accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the focus on ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The leadership underscored the strategic importance of the basin and called for comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.

To ensure sustainable development, the meeting outlined specific directives:

  • Conservation Enhancement: Systematically improve the water source conservation capacity in the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
  • Soil and Water Conservation: Strengthen soil and water conservation efforts in the middle reaches.
  • Ecological Governance: Advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.
  • Infrastructure Safety: Ensure the safety of crucial dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure.
  • Strategic Synergy: Strengthen the synergy between the Yellow River's high-quality development and broader strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.
  • Cultural Heritage Protection: Improve the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promote the integration of culture and tourism development.

These efforts are expected to collectively foster sustainable ecological environments and drive economic growth in the regions surrounding the Yellow River Basin.
