China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has commissioned its first Type 054B frigate, named the Luohe, in a ceremony held on Wednesday morning at a military port in Qingdao, Shandong Province.
Assigned the hull number \"545,\" the Luohe boasts a displacement of approximately 5,000 tonnes. This new-generation frigate has been independently developed and constructed by China, featuring advanced stealth technology, enhanced combat command systems, and integrated firepower capabilities. These advancements significantly boost its overall performance and operational effectiveness.
Equipped with robust capabilities for comprehensive combat operations and diverse military missions, the Luohe is set to play a critical role in strengthening the combat effectiveness of the PLA Navy's task forces.
In August 2023, the Ministry of National Defense confirmed the launch of the Type 054B frigate during a press conference. Wu Qian, spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the development of key combat vessels by the PLA Navy is a normal arrangement aligned with national security requirements and the navy's overall development objectives.
\"This move aims to safeguard the country's sovereignty, security, and development interests while contributing to global and regional peace and stability,\" Wu said, emphasizing China's commitment to peaceful development and its defensive national defense policy.
