President Xi Chairs CPC Leadership Meeting to Advance Reforms and Yellow River Protection

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a significant meeting of the CPC Political Bureau on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports and opinions aimed at advancing high-quality development and ecological protection, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau reviewed a comprehensive report from its Standing Committee after engaging in discussions on the work reports of the leading Party members' groups from key state institutions. These institutions include the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), along with the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting fully acknowledged the efforts and achievements of these groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of efficiency and reform, the meeting called on the leading Party members' groups to prioritize action, consolidate strengths, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and the modernization of China in the coming year.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the \"Mother River\" of China, holds immense cultural and historical significance. The meeting highlighted the need for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law to ensure the river's health and sustainability.

Key initiatives include enhancing water source conservation in the upper reaches, reinforcing soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and promoting wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the river. The meeting also stressed the importance of safeguarding critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs, and improving the synergy between the Yellow River's development and other regional strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

In addition, there was a call to enhance the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage associated with the Yellow River and to promote the integration of cultural and tourism development. These efforts aim to preserve the historical legacy of the region while fostering sustainable economic growth.

The outcomes of this meeting underscore the CPC's commitment to ecological conservation, high-quality development, and the continuous improvement of governance in China.
