China Urges Thailand and Myanmar to Intensify Crackdown on Cross-Border Telecom Fraud

China has called on Thailand and Myanmar to intensify their efforts in cracking down on cross-border telecom fraud, urging strong measures to prevent criminals from going unpunished.

Liu Jinsong, Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed these concerns during separate meetings with Thai Ambassador to China Chatchai Viriyavejakul and Ambassador of Myanmar to China Tin Maung Swe on Wednesday.

Recent incidents of telecom fraud in the border regions between Thailand and Myanmar have raised alarm, threatening and harming the vital interests of citizens from China and other countries.

Liu emphasized the importance of addressing this issue, expressing hope that both Thailand and Myanmar will take vigorous action to combat these offenses, safeguard people's lives and property, and ensure that criminals are brought to justice.

He further stated that China is willing to strengthen bilateral and multilateral law enforcement cooperation with ASEAN countries to create a safe environment for cross-border exchanges, including normal tourism and cultural activities.

The ambassadors of Thailand and Myanmar acknowledged China's concerns and expressed deep regret over the incidents. Recognizing the serious threat posed by telecom fraud, they affirmed their governments' commitments to resolutely combat such crimes through comprehensive measures and international cooperation.

They pledged to make every effort to rescue those trapped, impose severe penalties on criminal gangs in accordance with the law, strengthen border control and supervision of key areas, and establish long-term mechanisms to eradicate the breeding grounds for cross-border crimes.

This cooperative stance among the neighboring countries reflects a shared determination to enhance regional security and protect the well-being of their citizens.
