President Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting on Yellow River’s High-Quality Development

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting reviewed critical reports and outlined strategies to advance ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

The Political Bureau discussed reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after hearing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

The meeting acknowledged the significant accomplishments of these leading Party groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasizing the importance of action, it called on the leading Party members' groups of the five state institutions to focus on driving reforms and contributing to high-quality development and the advancement of Chinese modernization in 2025.

The Secretariat was urged to enhance its political capabilities, commit to strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the Yellow River Basin, the meeting underscored the need for comprehensive ecological protection and high-quality development in the region. It called for the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law and outlined specific measures to enhance conservation efforts.

The meeting proposed systematically improving water source conservation in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, strengthening soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advancing wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Ensuring the safety of key infrastructure such as dams, reservoirs, and other vital installations was also highlighted as a priority.

Furthermore, the meeting emphasized integrating the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies, including the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. It also called for improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism to foster sustainable development in the basin.
