Han is in Washington D.C. to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday, acting as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping. During his discussions with U.S. business leaders, Han highlighted the important common understandings reached between President Xi and President-elect Trump in a recent phone conversation regarding the future development of China-U.S. ties.
\"China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,\" Han stated. \"Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and maintaining steady growth serves the well-being of our peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.\"
He acknowledged the U.S. business community as a cornerstone of China-U.S. relations, recognizing its members as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. Han reaffirmed China's commitment to advancing reform and opening-up, and to continually improving its business environment.
The U.S. business representatives responded positively, noting that the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi sent an encouraging message. They emphasized that as the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence.
They expressed optimism about China's economic prospects and the opportunities available, supporting strengthened dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies like Tesla to seize opportunities in China, sharing in the fruits of its development and contributing to the enhancement of China-U.S. economic and trade relations. Musk expressed Tesla's readiness to deepen investment and cooperation with China, aiming to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
