China has unveiled an ambitious plan to achieve substantial progress in all-around rural revitalization and advance the modernization of agriculture and rural areas by 2027. This initiative, issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council, underscores the nation's commitment to strengthening its agricultural foundation and ensuring food security for its population.
Setting the period from 2024 to 2027 as critical for achieving these goals, the plan emphasizes stabilizing grain planting areas at approximately 1.75 billion mu (about 117 million hectares) and maintaining cereal crop areas around 1.45 billion mu. To bolster food security, China aims to steadily increase its grain production capacity, targeting a production level of about 1.4 trillion jin (700 million tonnes).
The strategy highlights that developed regions in the east and suburban villages in China's central and western regions will, where conditions permit, take the lead in achieving agricultural and rural modernization by 2027. This concerted effort is expected to promote economic growth and enhance living standards across rural communities.
Looking ahead to 2035, the plan envisions decisive progress in the comprehensive revitalization of rural areas. By then, China aims to have essentially realized agricultural modernization, with rural areas equipped with the basic conditions for modern living. This long-term vision reflects the country's dedication to bridging the urban-rural divide and promoting sustainable development nationwide.
