President Xi Jinping, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing reports and opinions crucial to China's high-quality development and ecological protection efforts.
The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after hearing and discussing work reports from the leading Party members' groups of key state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
One of the significant topics discussed was promoting ecological protection and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin. Opinions on how to comprehensively advance these initiatives were reviewed, highlighting the importance of the full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law.
The meeting acknowledged the accomplishments of the leading Party members' groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. Emphasis was placed on prioritizing action, strengthening reforms, and contributing to high-quality development and the realization of Chinese modernization in the upcoming year.
It was noted that the Secretariat should enhance its political capabilities, strengthen strict self-governance, and effectively accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
Regarding the Yellow River Basin, the meeting underscored the need for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, improve soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches. Ensuring the safety of important dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was also highlighted as a priority.
The discussion also touched on aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader strategies such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Efforts to protect cultural heritage holistically and systematically, as well as promoting the integration of culture and tourism development, were encouraged.
This meeting reflects China's continued commitment to ecological conservation and sustainable development, particularly in regions critical to the nation's environmental and economic well-being.
