China has expressed its openness to maintaining communication channels with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues, according to a statement made by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday.
The announcement came in response to the EU's filing of a complaint at the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes. The EU lodged the complaint on January 20, and China received the consultation request shortly thereafter, the ministry noted in an online statement addressing media inquiries.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China has consistently adhered to WTO rules and its commitments since joining the organization. The ministry highlighted the nation's continuous efforts to enhance legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, achievements that have been widely recognized on the international stage.
"We will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard our legitimate rights and interests," the ministry stated, reaffirming China's dedication to upholding international trade norms and engaging constructively with the EU on this issue.
