President Xi Chairs CPC Meeting to Review Reports and Boost Yellow River Development

In a significant move towards China's future development and ecological conservation, President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial meeting on Monday with the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting served as a platform to review comprehensive reports from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, delving into the work reports of leading Party members' groups from pivotal state institutions. These included the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP). The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee also presented its work report.

Acknowledging the achievements over the past year, the meeting approved the work plans for 2025 for these leading Party members' groups. President Xi emphasized the importance of prioritizing action, uniting efforts to drive reforms, and making new contributions to advancing high-quality development and realizing Chinese modernization in the coming year.

The Secretariat was encouraged to bolster its political capabilities, enforce strict self-governance, and effectively carry out all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

One of the focal points of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin, a region of immense historical and cultural significance. The meeting highlighted the necessity of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law to safeguard this vital waterway.

Efforts were called for to systematically enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. Ensuring the safety and integrity of key dams, reservoirs, and infrastructure was underscored as essential for the region's sustainable development.

The meeting also stressed the importance of aligning the Yellow River's high-quality development with broader national strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Enhancing the comprehensive protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism in the Yellow River Basin were identified as key initiatives to foster regional prosperity.
