China Open to Communication with EU on Intellectual Property

China has expressed its openness to dialogue with the European Union (EU) regarding intellectual property issues, emphasizing that communication channels remain accessible. The announcement was made by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce on Monday.

This statement comes in response to the EU's decision to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against China's judicial practices concerning standard essential patent disputes.

According to an online statement from the ministry, China received the EU's consultation request on January 20. The ministry highlighted that China strictly adheres to WTO rules and its accession commitments, continuously improving legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights—a commitment that has been widely recognized globally.

\"China will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,\" the ministry added, reaffirming its dedication to resolving disputes through established international mechanisms.

The ongoing dialogue underscores the importance of cooperation between China and the EU in navigating complex intellectual property challenges, with both sides acknowledging the role of open communication in fostering mutual understanding and advancing global trade relations.
