Chinese Vice President Han Zheng expressed hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China, playing an active role as a bridge between the two nations. He called for greater contributions to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Han made these remarks on Sunday during a meeting with representatives of the U.S. business community, including members of the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Han is in Washington, D.C., to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as the special representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
During the meeting, Han noted that President Xi and President-elect Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone call. He emphasized that China and the United States share broad common interests and significant potential for cooperation.
“Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of the two countries and meets the expectations of the international community,” Han stated.
Han highlighted the crucial role of the U.S. business community as a backbone of China-U.S. relations. He acknowledged their participation, witness, contribution, and benefits from bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development. They viewed the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi as a positive and encouraging message. They stated that as the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards a constructive and stable coexistence.
“We support strengthening U.S.-China dialogue and communication to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation,” the representatives affirmed.
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. He welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize the opportunity to share in the fruits of China’s development.
“China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to deepen investment and cooperation, and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations,” Han said.
Musk expressed readiness to deepen Tesla’s investment and cooperation with China, playing an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
