WEF Operations Chief Highlights Sustainability and Diversity at 2024 Davos Forum

In an exclusive interview with CGTN’s Global Business, Severin Podolak, Head of Event Management and Operations at the World Economic Forum (WEF), emphasized the organization’s commitment to sustainability and diversity at the upcoming 2024 Davos Forum.

Podolak revealed that this year’s event is striving to “reduce, reuse and recycle,” implementing measures aimed at minimizing the environmental footprint of the conference. One significant initiative includes subsidizing participants who choose to travel by public transportation, encouraging eco-friendly travel options among attendees from around the world.

“Our goal is to set a benchmark for sustainable events globally,” Podolak stated. “By incentivizing public transportation, we’re not only reducing emissions but also promoting a culture of sustainability among our participants.”

Beyond sustainability, the WEF is placing a strong emphasis on diversity. Podolak highlighted that the 2024 Davos Forum has actively worked to bring in diverse representation across regions, industries, and perspectives. “We believe that a multitude of voices enriches the dialogue and leads to more comprehensive solutions to global challenges,” he said.

The focus on diversity aims to ensure that the forum addresses a broad spectrum of issues relevant to different communities and sectors. By incorporating varied viewpoints, the WEF hopes to foster innovative ideas and collaborative efforts that resonate on a global scale.

As the world navigates complex economic and social landscapes, the WEF’s dedication to sustainability and diversity underscores its role in shaping meaningful discussions and driving positive change.
