Chinese Vice President Han Zheng emphasized the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations during a meeting with U.S. business leaders in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. Han expressed hope that American companies would continue to invest and establish roots in China, serving as a bridge to promote steady, sound, and sustainable development between the two nations.
Han met with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is in Washington, D.C., to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special representative.
During the meeting, Han noted that President Xi Jinping and President-elect Donald Trump recently reached important common understandings regarding the development of China-U.S. relations during a phone conversation. He highlighted that China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation.
“The U.S. business community has always been the backbone of China-U.S. relations,” Han stated, acknowledging their role as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China’s reform and opening-up efforts.
Han assured that China will unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up initiatives and continue to improve its business environment.
Representatives of the U.S. business community expressed optimism following the positive and encouraging message from the recent phone conversation between Trump and Xi. They emphasized that as the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist.
The U.S. business community remains optimistic about China’s economic prospects and development opportunities, supporting the strengthening of dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.
On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed U.S. companies, including Tesla, to seize opportunities to share in China’s development and contribute to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations.
Musk indicated that Tesla is ready to deepen its investment and cooperation with China and play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China.
