Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Strengthen China-U.S. Ties

In a significant move to bolster China-U.S. relations, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with leading figures from the U.S. business community in Washington D.C. on Sunday. Representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce attended the meeting, which aimed to enhance economic cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Vice President Han, serving as President Xi Jinping's special representative, is in the U.S. capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Monday. During the meeting, Han expressed hope that American companies would continue to invest and establish deeper roots in China.

"We hope that U.S. companies will continue to invest and take root in China, playing an active role as a bridge, and making a greater contribution to the steady, sound, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations," Han stated.

He highlighted the recent phone conversation between President Xi and President-elect Trump, noting that they reached important common understandings regarding the future development of China-U.S. relations. "China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation," Han said. "Getting the bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the common well-being of the peoples of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community."

Emphasizing the pivotal role of the U.S. business community, Han described them as "the backbone of China-U.S. relations" and acknowledged their contributions as participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, as well as China's reform and opening-up efforts. He assured that China would "unswervingly advance its reform and opening-up efforts and continue to improve its business environment."

The U.S. business leaders responded positively, expressing optimism about China's economic prospects and development opportunities. They remarked that the recent conversation between Trump and Xi sent a positive and encouraging message. "As the world's two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the U.S. and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation and work towards finding a constructive and stable way to coexist," they stated.

The representatives affirmed their support for strengthening dialogue and communication between the two countries to continue advancing bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation.

On the same day, Vice President Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla's ongoing investment in China and encouraged the company to seize the opportunities presented by China's development. "China welcomes U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China's development and make greater contributions to promoting China-U.S. economic and trade relations," he said.

Musk expressed enthusiasm for deepening Tesla's investment and cooperation with China, stating that the company is ready to play an active role in fostering economic and trade exchanges between the U.S. and China.
