President Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a significant meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing reports from key state institutions and discussing strategies for ecological protection and high-quality development, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.
The Political Bureau reviewed a comprehensive report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. It also heard and discussed work reports from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting fully acknowledged the achievements of these leading Party members’ groups over the past year and approved their work plans for 2025. It emphasized the importance of the leading Party members’ groups of the five state institutions making it a priority to implement effective reforms, pool strength, and contribute to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization.
President Xi highlighted the need for the Secretariat to enhance political capability, strengthen strict self-governance, and accomplish all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee.
A key focus of the meeting was the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The importance of fully enforcing the Yellow River Protection Law was underscored. The meeting called for systematic efforts to enhance water source conservation in the upper reaches, strengthen soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches of the Yellow River.
The meeting also urged efforts to ensure the safety of critical infrastructure such as dams and reservoirs. It emphasized the need to strengthen the synergy between the Yellow River’s high-quality development and national strategies like the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region. Additionally, it called for improving the holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage and promoting the integration of culture and tourism development.
