Xi Jinping Chairs CPC Meeting to Propel High-Quality Development and Yellow River Protection

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over a crucial meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday. The gathering focused on reviewing reports and formulating strategies to advance ecological protection and high-quality development, particularly in the Yellow River Basin.

The meeting commenced with the Political Bureau reviewing a report from its Standing Committee. Detailed work reports were discussed from the leading Party members’ groups of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People’s Court (SPC), and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP). Additionally, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee presented its work report.

Recognizing the significant efforts made over the past year, the meeting fully endorsed the accomplishments of the leading Party members’ groups of the five state institutions. Their work plans for 2025 were approved, underscoring a collective commitment to drive reforms and contribute to China’s high-quality development and modernization.

“In 2025, it is imperative for the leading Party members’ groups to prioritize effective action, unite efforts to push forward reforms, and make new contributions to advancing high-quality development and Chinese modernization,” the meeting emphasized.

The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee was urged to enhance its political capabilities, enforce strict self-governance, and diligently fulfill all tasks assigned by the CPC Central Committee.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The Yellow River, often referred to as the “Mother River” of China, is crucial to the nation’s ecological security and cultural heritage.

The meeting called for comprehensive enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Law, aiming to strengthen water source conservation in the upper reaches, intensify soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological governance in the lower reaches.

Emphasizing infrastructure safety, the meeting advocated for enhanced security measures for dams, reservoirs, and other critical structures. There was a strong call to align the Yellow River’s development with broader strategies, such as the large-scale development of the western region and the rise of the central region.

The protection of cultural heritage and the integration of culture and tourism were also highlighted. The meeting stressed the importance of holistic and systematic approaches to preserve the rich history and promote sustainable tourism in the Yellow River Basin.

This meeting reflects China’s ongoing commitment to ecological preservation and sustainable development, aiming to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship for the benefit of future generations.
