China reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue with the European Union (EU) on intellectual property rights (IPR) issues, stating that channels of communication remain open. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Commerce on Monday in response to the EU’s recent actions at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
On Monday, the EU filed a complaint with the WTO against the Chinese mainland’s judicial ruling on standard essential patent disputes. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce acknowledged receiving a consultation request from the EU on January 20, emphasizing its willingness to engage in discussions.
“China has always strictly adhered to WTO rules and its accession commitments,” the ministry stated in an online release. “We have continually improved legislation and law enforcement related to the protection of intellectual property rights, and our achievements have been widely recognized.”
The ministry added that China will address subsequent matters in accordance with WTO rules and firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
