Xi Jinping Calls for Closer China-Vietnam Ties Towards a Shared Future

Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between China and Vietnam, aiming to build a community with a shared future of strategic significance. In a message exchanged on Saturday with Vietnamese leaders General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties, President Xi emphasized the importance of deepening mutual trust and practical cooperation.

“China and Vietnam, as friendly socialist neighbors, form a community with a shared future that carries strategic importance,” President Xi stated. He highlighted that since establishing diplomatic relations 75 years ago, both nations have stood side by side, supporting each other in the pursuit of national independence and liberation. “Our profound friendship is vividly portrayed by the sentiment that we are both comrades and brothers,” he added.

President Xi noted that in their shared journey towards socialism, China and Vietnam have learned from each other and advanced hand in hand, deepening comprehensive strategic cooperation. “We share the same ideals and pursue a common future, which is the most striking feature of our relations,” he said.

Reflecting on his successful visit to Vietnam in 2023, President Xi recalled the joint pledge to work towards building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance, elevating bilateral relations to a new level.

Amid unprecedented global changes, Xi underscored the importance of both countries continuing to follow the socialist path. “This has a bearing on the future of our parties and countries, as well as the global socialist cause,” he remarked. “It is of great significance to the peace, stability, development, and prosperity of the region and the world at large.”

Looking ahead, President Xi expressed his readiness to collaborate with Vietnamese leaders during the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges. “Let us keep in mind our original mission and forge ahead on the new journey toward socialist modernization,” he urged, aiming to deliver greater benefits to both peoples and contribute significantly to global development and progress.
